If you have trouble climbing stairs, see if there’s an elevator or rooms Available at ground level. Remember, that “first floor” in some countries is the same as “second floor” in the U.S. If this could be a problem, be sure to check before you book.You will be responsible for getting your own bags to the room. When most people think hostel, it’s in the context of scruffy young backpackers, not more mature travelers. Certainly, if you’re looking for posh amenities or someone to carry your bags, you’d be better off in a hotel. But, if you’re a close-to-the-ground type of traveler and particularly if you’re on a budget, staying in a hostel can be a really good option.
The first advantage has already been mentioned: price. Accommodation can take the biggest chunk by far out of your traveling budget. Even staying in places like student dormitories, convents or monasteries can be surprisingly pricey, particularly in cities like Rome, London or San Francisco. Staying in hostels can free up a lot of your travel money and can make the difference between having the occasional nice meal out and eating at McDonalds. If money is particularly tight, it can even mean the difference between getting to travel and staying home.
Security is foremost in most people’s minds when they travel and with good reason. Most (if not all) hostels have CCTV cameras in all the common rooms and virtually all lock their doors at night. (You can still get in, but cheapest) restaurants and the locations of the better-stocked and most- reasonably-priced grocery stores. They can also be invaluable on advising Sharing a room with three to seven other people may not be everyone’s cup
